Nomadic people, including Tuareg and Fulani health workers, activists and traditional chiefs, are seen in a training session to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS and teach communities basic methods to stop the transmission of the disease in InGall in Niger on Tuesday Sept. 23, 2003.Topics such as early marriage, girls education and preventing malaria are also amongst those covered. Niger is the second poorest country in the world. Nearly two-thirds of the population does not have sufficient income for their basic needs such as food, clean water, shelter and clothing. Average life expectancy is 46 years and over 80% of the population is illiterate. Women have little access to information and education. At least 90% of women are illiterate in Niger.
