Across the valley in Mashaeng a teenager walks the dusty road home from school. The inequalities, however, are not nearly as marked now as poverty has become the condition of the whole town. Rural farming communities are under pressure in South Africa with the uncertainties in the agricultural sector compounded by rapid urbanisation.
