Feb. 16, 1989 - Termez, Uzbekistan, RU - Armed with AK-47 Kalashnikov rifles, Soviet soldiers of the 103rd Guards Airborne Division, 40th Army, the last Soviet soldiers to leave Afghanistan, at a ceremony in the border town of Termez in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic, shortly after crossing the 'Friendship Bridge' over the Amu Darya river linking the Afghan border town of Hayratan with Termez, in the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic.
