After fleeing persecution in their native country, many took up residence across the border in Thailand where they have became a tourist attraction. This new role has provided them with an income and a stable and sustainable environment. From the age of six, the girls wear the traditional bronze rings around their necks and legs. As the rings are added over a period of years, their necks elongate. Once attached, the rings remain in place for life"
