THAILAND, North, Mae Hong Son, "Nai Soi Long neck Karen children. Originally from Myanmar, the Long neck Karen (Padaung) people fled persecution in their native land and settled across the border in Thailand where they have become something of a tourist attraction. This new life has provided them with both a steady income and a stable environment. From an early age, Padaung girls wear the traditional bronze rings on their necks and legs. As the rings are added over the passing years, their necks elongate. Once fastened the rings remain throughout their lives."
