Mrs Elkington and her daughter, Margaret, pose in their garden with their pet lion cub, Paddy. Jim Elkington, who had arrived in Kenya in 1905, sold EH's family their first plot of land in Thika. Paddy later achieved notoriety after attacking Beryl Markham, an incident described in her book "West with the Night."
