Spain, Castile and Leon, Avila. Cathedral of St. Salvador. Catholic church. It was started in the 12th century in Romanesque style and concluded in the 14th century in Gothic style. The Romanesque-Gothic apse was built partly as a fortress, like a fortified tower embedded into the defensive town walls. Architectural detail of the upper part. Architect: Giral Fruchel (12th century).
