This mini poster was contained in a salesman's sample book entitled, "Up-To-Date Comic Valentines." Produced in 1930s or 1940s, the book contained 24 mini-posters. The booklet was taken apart to be sold separately. Because of the images and wording these are also known as ''Rude Valentines'' or "Vinegar Valentines." Other different sets of these that were made and some were used as premiums from Cracker Jack, Checkers Popcorn Confection and others. Some types were sold in old five and dime stores..
