French Revolution-Antoine Merlin de Thionville dit Merlin de Thionville pour le distinguer de Merlin de Douai, né à Thionville le 13 septembre 1762 et mort à Paris le 14 septembre 1833, fut député de la Moselle à la Convention nationale and pressed for the execution of Louis XVI, but a mission to the army prevented his attending the trial. He displayed great bravery in the defence of Mainz. He took part in the Thermidorian Reaction which followed the fall of Robespierre, sat in the Council of Five Hundred under the Directory, and at the coup d'état of the 18th Fructidor. C'est l'un des plus fameux représentants en mission de la Convention.
