Title
Indians Building Missions
Caption
California: c. 1930
The padres taught the Native Americans to make the adobe bricks used in the building of the missions. After they were made and dried, the building of the walls was started. Each brick was forced into place in the soft mortar. The Indians were taught to set each brick carefully in order to keep the layers of brick level and to form straight walls
