Detail of an embroidered silk banner of the Buddha Sakyamuni preaching on Vulture Peak, The Buddha stands with an almond shaped aureole behind which may be seen the rocky features of Mt Griddhkuta (Grdhrakuta)or Vulture Peak. Found in the Buddhist cave temples of Dunhuang, preserved in a sealed cave. China, Chinese. Tang dynasty, 618 906 AD.
