A painted board, or henta, Deuse, the god of the white man, is shown here surrounded by images of his omnipotence. Decorated henta koi or shields such as this one acted as magical charms which were kept in the dwelling place of an ill person. If the person died, the shield was discarded. India. Indigenous tribal. Late 19th/early 20th century. Nicobar Islands.
