Title
'Les Types de la Commune', 1875
Caption
Left: A theatre box in May. The Communard officer, leaning towards an elegant woman, is shown in a posture of inappropriate gallantry, in an ironic tone that suggests the moral frivolity of the revolutionary leaders.
Centre: Delegate from the Café Le Madrid. The delegate is depicted in an attitude of ostentatious authority, treated satirically to ridicule the exercise of political power by women.
Right: Ferré and his executioners. Théophile Ferré is shown dictating a death warrant with chilling calm, in an accusatory tone that likens him to a bureaucrat of crime.
Colour illustrations from a series of 12 plates published in Le Figaro's album "Les Type de la Commune" (Paris Commune). 1875 edition illustrated by Bertall and Henri Monnier.
