Title
'Les Types de la Commune', 1875
Caption
Left: Cantinières. Depicted with a martial air and exaggerated coquetry, in an ironic tone that highlights the perceived inappropriateness of the militarisation of women in the Commune.
Centre: A citizen delegate. Depicted as a notable figure, he is presented in an ironically critical manner as a bourgeoisie man giving himself the appearance of a revolutionary.
Right: The Colonel. Depicted in a posture of authority, it emphasises the inversion of gender roles, which was considered grotesque.
Colour illustrations from a series of 12 plates published in Le Figaro's album "Les Type de la Commune" (Paris Commune). 1875 edition illustrated by Bertall and Henri Monnier.
