Decorated with three circular medallions in grisaille depicting fables of La Fontaine according to illustrations by Charles Percier un the Didot l'Ainé's publication of 1804 (year X of the Republic).
Centre : "The miller, his son and their donkey" and on all sides : "
On the top and at the bottom : in the blue and the brown, 2 others fables : "The wolf and the lamb" and ": The frog who wished to be as big as the ox"

This tray formed a part with a tea set composed by a teapot, a sugar boxl, a milk jar, twocups and two saucers. This set was retailed on december the 28th of 1812 and was immediately offered for Christmas by the Empress Marie-Louisse to the Queen Hortense. After her divroce in 1810 with Louis and Josephine's one with Napoleon, Hortense remains a major character of the imperial court, notably when Napoleon was absent during his Russian military campaign. Marie Louisse offered her this lunch tray at this time
