Caption

Marengo coat
Important piece of the coat worn by Bonaparte at the battle of Marengo. He took it then to St. Helena. When the Emperor died, the coat was laid on his remains. A british soldier took advantage of a moment's inattention to cut off this piece. It was then sold by auction in the 1870s. The coat was burnt in the fire of the Tussaud museum in London, in the early 20th century.
