Sir Humphry Davy (1778-1829). British physicist and chemist. He succeeded in isolating sodium, potassium, barium, strontium and calcium through electrolysis, and invented the safety lamp for miners. Member of the Royal Society since 1803, he presided over it beginning in 1820.
