Benjamin Thompson, Count Rumford. (1753 -1814). American physicist, he is the first recipient of the Royal Society's Rumford medal, in 1792. He contributes to the creation of the Rumford medal of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, awarded every two years to a scientist working in the USA in the thermal or optical fields. He married the widowed chemist Marie-Anne Pierrette Paulze-Lavoisier.
