Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais (1732-1799), French writer, philosopher and playwright.
He is one of the emblematic figures of the Enlightenment. Initially a businessman in the service of the royal power, his plays highlight the throes of power.
He was Voltaire's publisher and was also behind the first law in favour of copyright and the founder of the Société des auteurs.
His major works include the Figaro trilogy (Barber of Seville, Marriage of Figaro, Guilty Mother)
