In 1808, during it's sixty-sixth flight in the region of La Haye, Mrs Blanchard suffered a stroke, causing him to fall out of the gondola, twenty metres from the ground.
He died the following year.
His spouse Sophie Blanchard took up his mantle and soon towns all over France and Europe called upon her to visit, so that they could see her take off into the skies.
