Friework display at l'Etoile, Champs Elysées organised by the diplomat Bonaparte, first display in the French Republic.
Paris, J. Chereau Rue Jacques near the Séverin Fountain n° 257.
Since the second half of the Directoire's rule, balloons were used to bring a touch of grandeur to public celebrations. They were often organised by Garnerin who made numerous ascents. Within the consulate he became a somewhat offical aeronaut and a particular favourite of the Parisian crowds.
