Aerostatic experiments of Sir Adorne, an optician, with his first attempts at la Citadelle de Strasbourg in March 1784 with a balloon 80in in height with a circumference of 156, displacing the 113.310 cubic feet of atmospheric air with a weight of 261/2 quintals in total.
This etching was created to announce the planned experiment on 21st May 1784. The balloon was destroyed during a test flight on 15th May 1784 and the experiment never took place.
