Info+

At the beginning of May 1784, Adorne and Winter made an announcement to the Strasbourg public, declaring the date of their aerostatic experiment which was due to take place on Sunday 21st May 1784. A run through was scheduled on 15th May 1784. During the take off, the balloon rubbed against a mast causing it to tear. It was a complete disaster. The balloon fell on the roof of a timber yard which consequently became consumed by fire. The balloonists managed to jump out of the craft without causing great harm to themselves however the balloon was destroyed and the experiment on 21st May never took place.
