Experimentation on Tuesday 2nd March 1784, Champs de Mars, Paris.
Mr Blanchart had a balloon built in vanished silk and then fit it to different parts of his first flying machine. He added a rudder and two sets of oars. A parachute is placed between the aerostat and the gondola to slow down the descent.
"Whilst she (1) admired the elegant vessel,
The inventor steered it straight to la Cour de France,
She arrived triumphant in the eyes of the spectators,
Who were just as adoring of the Goddess.
There, Venus recognised her Son and Daughter,
And did not want to leave the bosom of her Family."
