On 21st Novembre 1783 at Château de la Muette in front of two hundred guests among them, Beaumarchais, Lavoisier, Benjamin Franklin, Malesherdes and Condorcet. There was such an intense silence that only the balloon's crackling fire could be heard. Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier and le marquis d’Arlandes left the ground for their first aerial journey. The emotion of the scene was strong as the balloon and its two passengers gradually rose above the trees in the park. It was an enthralling sight, with the balloonists waving their handkerchiefs and hats in front of a captivated crowd. Immense joy spread throughout the parc de la Muette.
