On 19th October 1783, Jean-François Pilâtre de Rozier made his first ascent in a fixed hot air balloon with the marquis d'Arlandes as his co-passenger. The experiment took place within the jardins de la Manufacture royale de papier peint Réveillon in la Folie Titon. A month later, on 21st November 1783, they took off from the Château de la Muette park and flew over Paris. They landed twenty-six minutes later in the clos Payen on the hillside of la Butte aux Cailles.
