Charles the physicist and the Robert brothers invented the hydrogen balloon in the course of 1783. The first free balloon took off from the Champs de Mars on 27th August 1783. The 1st December 1783 at the Tuileries, Charles and the youngest of the Robert brothers took to the air on board a gas balloon, they landed in Nesle la Vallée.
