Typical neoclassical style jewel, evidently French from the type of gold used (18 carats).
This intaglio possesses mysterious properties as this iconography has rarely been used (an antique equivalent was found in Sarrebourg dating from 2nd century B.C) ?
The other side was engraved in 17th century bearing the emblem of a French family, who immigrated to England during the 14th century.
