Vietnam – History

Caption

Vietnam. Built in the 1940s by fighters battling French colonial rule, the Cu Chi tunnel network expanded considerably during the American - Vietnam War, becoming a veritable underground city with kitchens, mess halls, dormitories, armories, repair shops, infirmaries, and meeting rooms. It withstood thousands of ground and air attacks without ever being destroyed. Among the unique features of the Cu Chi site are the tiny entrance holes leading to the tunnels, camouflaged by foliage, as the soldier demonstrates to a group of visitors.
