Vietnam. Built in the 1940s by fighters battling French colonial rule, the Cu Chi tunnel network expanded considerably during the American-Vietnam War to become a veritable underground city, with kitchens, mess halls, dormitories, armories, repair shops, infirmaries and meeting rooms, and was the target of thousands of ground and air attacks without ever being destroyed. ©MARC CHARUEL/PHOTO12
