Forest edge, sketchbook page, Page 24 recto from a sketchbook with 39 pages., draftsman (artist): Pieter Moninckx, 1645 - 1646, draftsman (artist), inorganic material, paper, chalk, black chalk, height 201 mm x width 315 mm, fringe, edge of the wood, A wide, pale drawing of a landscape showing a stand of trees along a gently sloping ground, rendered in light pencil with delicate trunk lines and clustered, textured foliage. The trees vary in size and spacing, with some trunks straight and others slightly curved, and the canopy marks create soft, rounded crowns. The foreground has faint horizontal shading suggesting a grassy surface, while the middle ground is denser with overlapping trunks and leaves. The upper area of the image is mostly empty pale paper, and the pencil strokes are light and sketchlike throughout.
