Below and around her are several figures, including a woman in flowing garments seated and holding a book while a small child reaches toward her, another child crawling on the ground, and multiple smaller figures and heads clustered among scattered sheets and rolls. To the right a figure leans forward holding a long angled object, and various draped fabrics and rounded objects lie across the lower foreground. The scene is sketched with flowing contour lines, shaded washes, and energetic hatch marks.
