Cannons or similar artillery pieces appear mounted on parts of the fortifications and on platforms near the water, with clouds of smoke suggesting recent firing. The shoreline and surrounding landscape show embankments and pathways, and the scene is rendered in fine hatch and line work with crosshatching for shading.
