Within the fortification there is a church-like building with an open arched interior where a group of robed figures gather around an altar and a clergyman, and nearby other robed and uniformed figures stand and walk in procession. Soldiers in various stances carry long pikes and muskets, some advancing in formation across a paved area and others positioned behind ramparts firing toward the outer defenses. Defensive works and trenches surround the central area, with men operating artillery on raised platforms and others climbing or peering over parapets. Small groups of figures appear on walkways and stairways, some gesturing or pointing, while clustered soldiers form ranks beneath flags and standards. Architectural elements include a multi-story house beside the church, narrow windows, archways, and a bell tower. The composition includes detailed hatching and crosshatching to indicate texture and shading, and smoke plumes and motion lines emphasize active firing and movement throughout the scene.
