Part of a large group of prints relating to the events of the Brabant Revolution and the period 1787-1790., printmaker, Southern Netherlands, paper, etching, engraving, height 174 mm x width 210 mm, A detailed pen-and-ink scene shows a large ornate building with tall windows and decorative roof elements centered in the background, flanked by rows of gabled buildings. In the foreground a group of uniformed soldiers stand in formation to the left, wearing hats and long coats and carrying long poles, while another group of soldiers and figures in varied poses occupy the central area, some climbing or falling and holding pole-like weapons. To the right a large lion stands on its hind legs gripping a long pole with its front paws, its mane and muscular body rendered in fine lines, while a small dog stands nearby looking toward the commotion. On the far right a line of men in civilian dress observe the scene, shown with detailed facial expressions and period clothing. The ground is shaded with parallel lines and the overall image is composed of fine, precise etching strokes.
