The description is, 1609., Fortitude, 'Fortitudo', one of the Four Cardinal Virtues, A womanlike figure in a flowing dress with puffed sleeves stands with one hand resting on a fluted column and the other holding a tall, cylindrical hat and a small decorative shield; her hair is curled and arranged atop her head, and her face is rendered with a calm, neutral expression. The dress shows detailed folds and vertical shading, and the figure stands on a textured base with a rolled object lying nearby. To the right, a tree with a twisted trunk and clusters of leaves rises beside the figure, and small plants and grassy tufts appear at the tree’s base. The background is a lightly textured surface with fine engraving lines.
