In the foreground a seated stool holds pottery and a low table, and a large barrel stands nearby with a dog leaning over it with its head inside a bowl; another dog stands alert to the right. A youth or young man wearing a cap and simple clothing stands beside the barrel holding a long handled tool or mallet and gesturing with one hand. The ground is textured with cobbles or paving, and architectural cornices, windows, and masonry details are rendered with fine crosshatching.
