Amsterdam: J. van Gulik, 1802., picture, painting, beasts of prey, predatory animals: lion, arm raised, with fist, An interior scene rendered in fine line work shows a man in period clothing leaning forward with one hand on a table and the other raised, his body angled toward a large wall panel depicting a tree and a lion; the man wears a coat with flowing tails, knee-length breeches, stockings, and shoes, and a sword hangs at his side. The room features ornate wall paneling with decorative molding and framed ovals, a pedestal topped with an ornamental object, and a tall arched opening revealing trees and sky outside. A cushioned chair with cabriole legs sits near the opening and holds a hat with a plume. The floor is composed of wide planks and the overall image is executed in densely hatched monochrome engraving lines.
