In the foreground a mounted figure with a cloak and raised arm holds a sword while facing a column of marching soldiers who carry long pikes and wear tricorn hats. A few individual figures walk near the gate, and trees and low vegetation appear along the water and behind the buildings. The scene is rendered with fine line work and crosshatching across sky, architecture, figures, and ground.
