In the foreground a mounted officer wearing a tricorn hat and holding a raised sword sits on a rearing horse while several men on foot in long coats and tricorn hats stand nearby, some holding long pikes or staffs. Rows of uniformed soldiers with muskets and pikes form a formation behind them, with flags on poles visible among the ranks. To the right a steep rocky cliff rises with a few tall, thin trees at its top. A small dog stands on the ground in front of the horse, and grasses and small plants dot the immediate ground area. The engraving is rendered with intricate line work and crosshatching throughout.
