In the foreground a seated man in a military uniform and a bicorne hat leans on a cane while another man kneels beside a barrel, handling a smaller container. A woman stands nearby holding a pail, wearing a long dress and a bonnet. Behind them a row of soldiers advance with spears or pikes, and groups of people gather and move along the sand. Further back there are buildings with sloped roofs and chimneys, with people clustered around the structures. On the water several sailing ships and smaller boats are visible, their masts and sails distinct against the horizon. To the right, mounted figures on horseback and additional figures on the beach are engaged in various activities. The engraving is composed of fine lines and crosshatching throughout, creating texture in the sky, sea, clothing, and architecture.
