Volume XXI., Person, Nicolaas Heinsius, A monochrome engraved portrait shows a man framed by an oval border set into a rectangular panel. He has short hair, a mustache, and a beard, and he wears a high, pleated ruff collar and a dark, buttoned garment with visible folds and textured shading. The oval frame has concentric rings and rests on a plinth with lined and rectangular decorative panels beneath it. Fine parallel hatching and crosshatching fill the background and define the facial features, clothing, and architectural elements.
