Amsterdam: Johannes Allart, 1786-1809., Person, Pieter Leonard van de Kasteele, An engraved portrait of a man shown from the shoulders up inside a rectangular ornate frame mounted on a textured wall, the man facing slightly to viewer's right with powdered hair styled back and a curled queue, wearing a dark coat and a light ruffled collar; a draped curtain falls from the upper left across the lower left corner, partially covering a stack of open and closed books and loose sheets resting on a carved pedestal with an oval recessed panel, a ribboned seal hanging over the pedestal edge, and a lyre-shaped decorative element leaning against the right side, all rendered in fine crosshatching and line work.
