A large open carriage drawn by horses carries seated figures and is driven by a person on the front seat, while a marching group in uniform walks ahead and alongside the carriage. Crowds of onlookers stand on both sides of the road, with some figures gesturing or pointing. In the background there is a row of buildings with arched windows and an entrance framed by a decorative archway through which a mounted rider is passing. Trees with dense foliage and twisting trunks frame the composition on the left and right. In the foreground a person kneels or reaches toward a dog near the road, and various small groups of figures cluster and observe the procession.
