The pictures, either all together or in part, were widely used to decorate New Testaments and also appeared in copy., the parable of the prodigal son (Luke 15:11-32), A detailed black and white etching shows a rural scene with buildings, figures, and landscape. On the left a multi-story building with arches and a visible chimney stands beside a smaller house with a steep roof and dormer window; trees and clouds fill the upper background. In the foreground two bearded men in loose, folded garments occupy the center and right, one standing and gesturing with an outstretched arm while the other kneels with a hand to his face. Behind them a small fenced area, a cow lying on the ground, and two standing figures are visible near a wagon drawn by animals on a distant road. Vegetation and textured ground cover the lower portion of the scene, and fine parallel etching lines create shading across sky, architecture, clothing, and landscape.
