In the foreground an older bearded man in a cloak embraces a younger nearly nude man who kneels and clings to him, their faces close together. Nearby two men in draped garments stand on the steps, one holding fabric and the other with hands clasped, both looking toward the embracing pair. Above on the landing several figures stand and sit, one leaning on a railing and others gathered near an entrance, while a person peeks from a small window in the wall. To the right a pair of figures walk under an archway into a courtyard with tall vertical foliage and a distant wall. Two small dogs sniff the ground near the steps. The scene is rendered with fine crosshatching and linear shading, showing worn stone surfaces, carved balustrades, and textured clothing.
