These were used in drawing instruction. Fifteen years later, this series was reissued by Meyer and Comp in Amsterdam in a different composition. At the base of the hill are several small buildings with pitched roofs, including a taller multi-story house and smaller outbuildings, set near a shoreline with calm water visible. The foreground includes a grassy or marshy bank leading down to the water, and a winding path or road that approaches the buildings. The overall scene is composed of delicate pencil or charcoal textures with subtle tonal gradations and scattered speckling across the paper.
