Landscape with canal, windmill and footbridge, Passerelle (original title), print, printmaker: Philip Zilcken (signed by artist), 1879, paper, chine collé, etching, intaglio printmaking technique, etching with plate tone, on chine collé, height 189 mm x width 122 mm, canal, windmill in landscape, A narrow waterway runs vertically through the scene with calm, lightly textured reflections, bordered on the right by a muddy path with footprints and a small wooden railing leading down to the water and on the left by low buildings and a windmill with blades angled and a thatched roof. Bare, leafless trees with thin, twisting branches rise from the right bank, their silhouettes contrasting against a sky filled with fine, crosshatched cloud lines. Small boats float on the water, one closer to the foreground and one further away, and reeds or grasses edge the banks. The overall image is rendered in delicate, sketchlike lines on a pale, slightly mottled background.
