These prints were published in two volumes from 1777 onwards., herding, herdsman, herdswoman, shepherd, shepherdess, cowherd, (scenes from) specific works of literature: Tasso, Gerusalemme Liberata, Erminia, forest, wood - HH - ideal landscapes, A sepia-toned landscape drawing showing a wooded scene with tall, leafy trees of various shapes and sizes framing a clearing, scattered bushes and undergrowth, and distant hills on the horizon. In the foreground a group of people are gathered near a standing horse, some seated and some standing, while grazing sheep are nearby on the grass. A winding path or clearing leads into the trees where a few small figures walk among trunks and foliage. The sky above is lightly sketched with a few small birds in flight. The overall image is rendered in ink and wash with detailed tree canopies, twisted trunks, and textured shading throughout.
