On the left, a ruined structure with fluted columns and ornate capitals stands among dense foliage, and a large tree with a broad canopy rises nearby. In the middle distance there are low ruined buildings and a shoreline with small boats and masts on the water, with hazy mountains on the horizon and scattered clouds in the sky. On the right, a round temple with tall columns sits atop a rocky, tree-covered promontory, and below it two robed figures stand on a ledge among bushes and rocks. The foreground contains broken columns, scattered architectural fragments, and plant growth, while birds are visible in the sky.
